MY APPROACH TO TRAINING

  1. Training is done on-site (but can be accomplished elsewhere).

Benefit: Convenient, familiar surroundings.

  1. Class size of 12 students or less.

Benefit: Allows for more personalized training.

  1. Each student has a PC to work on.

Benefit: Reinforces training.  Students see, hear and DO.  Better retention.

  1. Each student trains on a local database.

Benefit: Improves performance, eliminates network congestion.

  1. For any set of students, training should not exceed 4 hours per day.

Benefit: 4 hours is near the maximum amount of time in which the brain can absorb

details.  Additional training time that day is not cost effective.

  1. Class should start at either 8:00 AM or 1:00 PM.

Benefit: Training either starts or ends the day.  This frees-up the rest of the day.

  1. Each hour of class consists of 50 minutes of training and 10 minutes of break.

Benefit: Breaks keep the brain receptive to new information.

  1. Training is progressive – in hour 2 we build on (and reinforce) what was learned in hour 1.

Benefit: Repetition enhances retention.

  1. Presentation speed is adjusted to the class absorption rate.

Benefit: Keeps students from being overwhelmed by the material.

  1. Laminated Cheat Sheets are handed out to the students at the end of training.

Benefit: Assists retention.

  1. After training, I accept “How do I…?” calls from students.  The 5 or 10 minute variety are free – If the calls exceed 15 minutes I’ll send an invoice for some portion of time.  No service contract is needed.

Benefit: Protects your investment in training.

Cost: Fixed hourly rate – I do not base this on the number of students.  If you are within 50 miles of Glen Ellyn, IL, there is no travel cost, otherwise roundtrip miles (as determined by Yahoo Maps) are charged at the current IRS allowed mileage rate.
